The university used this logo from 1978 to 1998, featuring the silhouettes of two Vandals instead of the more cartoonish version of Joe Vandal they’d used prior. Idaho is proud to be the only higher education institution to use the “Vandals” nickname. The university officially heralds the Vandal as a symbol of their spirit as “fiercely competitive[,] and independent thinkers and doers.”
